Stableford
It's the most frequent in local tournaments, because it allows the ball to be lifted when the result is bad, so it saves time in games. The scores, which take into account each player's handicap, are assigned in relation to the pair: albatrosses, 5 points; eagle, 4 points; birdie, 3 points; pair, 2 points; bogey, 1 point; double bogey and following, 0 points.
Medal play
In this case, it's played by shots. It's common in professional tournaments and wins who takes the ball to the hole in the least amount of impacts.
Match Play
It's the other usual alternative in professional championships. The score is established in each hole: whoever does it in fewer strokes wins it and, in the end, the holes won by both rivals are added and compared. If one of them has more advantage than the missing holes, the match ends.
Greensome
Is played in pairs. The two members of the same team leave each hole and choose the best ball of the two. Then they play it alternately, starting with the first one who picked up his ball when he left.
Fourball
Known in Spanish as the “mejor bola”, it's a competition for 4 players who play their balls and score for holes (as in the Match Play). It's the most common among friends.

When we talk about playing golf in Pollensa, we are talking about playing a healthy, fun and addictive sport. But we also talk about the need to practice in order to improve little by little and to enjoy it more and more.

Tee shot
So called because it is the shot with which the game starts. It is made from the tee using a club that will depend on the length and type of hole, although it is usual to use wood if the hole is far away, and irons for shorter shots.
Drive
This is the long distance shot whose aim is to get the ball as close to the green as possible. Depending on how skilled a shooter you are, it can be as long as 300 metres. It is carried out with a club, the driver, which has great length and few degrees.
Putt
This is the exact opposite of the previous shot. Its purpose is precisely to be used for short distances. It is used when the ball is already on the green and the only thing you are looking for is for the ball to roll over it, without needing to leave the ground.
It is, so to speak, a precision shot, so you have to pay close attention to the speed and the line the ball is going to follow until it reaches the hole. This calculation has to take into account the slope of the ground and other factors such as wind.
A club called a putter is used, which is the shortest iron in the bag; it has one flat surface and one rounded surface.
Approach
The essential objective of this stroke (as its name suggests, since in Spanish it means "to approach") is to bring the ball close to the green from a medium distance, with a controlled and soft stroke, somewhat stronger than the putter, but weaker than the drive.
This is done with a short club, called a sand wedge or pitching wedge.
