Golf modalities in Mallorca
Stroke play, match play and other ways to enjoy the game
If you like this sport, playing golf in Mallorca is a real joy. Do you know that there are different modalities with different standards? In this article, we want to introduce some of them.
Variants of golf in Pollensa
We don't intend to make a very long article, so we are only going to consider some of the most popular or significant options. Do we comment them?
Stableford
It's the most frequent in local tournaments, because it allows the ball to be lifted when the result is bad, so it saves time in games. The scores, which take into account each player's handicap, are assigned in relation to the pair: albatrosses, 5 points; eagle, 4 points; birdie, 3 points; pair, 2 points; bogey, 1 point; double bogey and following, 0 points.
Medal play
In this case, it's played by shots. It's common in professional tournaments and wins who takes the ball to the hole in the least amount of impacts.
Match Play
It's the other usual alternative in professional championships. The score is established in each hole: whoever does it in fewer strokes wins it and, in the end, the holes won by both rivals are added and compared. If one of them has more advantage than the missing holes, the match ends.
Greensome
Is played in pairs. The two members of the same team leave each hole and choose the best ball of the two. Then they play it alternately, starting with the first one who picked up his ball when he left.
Fourball
Known in Spanish as the “mejor bola”, it's a competition for 4 players who play their balls and score for holes (as in the Match Play). It's the most common among friends.
Now that you know a few alternatives, remember that you can practice your favorite modality in the Pollensa golf courses. Playing golf in Mallorca is wonderful!

Practicing a sport in general, is always healthy. But each one has its advantages, both for physical and mental health. Here we're going to tell you several benefits of playing this sport.1. Reduce stressWithout a doubt, it's one of the biggest advantages of this sport. To begin with, it's practiced outdoors, in a natural and relaxed environment. It's a kind of leisurely sport, in which concentration is something very important. In addition to all this, it helps to release endorphins (known as "happiness" hormones), which makes practicing this exercise to help us feel better.2. Anyone can practice itThe vast majority of sports require a great physical form, but golf can be practice practically by anyone without problems. You only need aim and concentration. Also, the fact that the fields are so big, forces you to walk a lot, which makes it a perfect activity for seniors.3. Healthy mind, healthy bodyBeing an outdoor sport, it will help you to better synthesize vitamin D (ideal for bones and blood circulation). In addition, each time you hit the ball, you tone and strengthen the muscles of the legs and arms. But it's not just that, golf helps us improve concentration, reduce stress or anxiety.4. Minimum risk of injuriesIt's a sport that has little risk of injuries, which is ideal for people with ease to suffer them or for the elderly who don't want big efforts for fear of hurting themselves. One of the services we provide the members of our golf course in Mallorca is the Junior Academy for children. As we are highly aware of the benefits of this sport for children, we want to give you some reasons to make golf your children’s favourite out-of-school activity. Why enrol your children in a golf academy?1. Fight against sedentary living by having your children play a sport in which they are permanently in contact with nature. This activity allows your children to learn to value the environment and conservation. The mere fact of taking care of the golf course by picking up any bit of paper or plastic on the ground is an important step in that learning process.2. Golf is practically risk-free for your children, compared with other sports such as basketball, football, and tennis. The chances of suffering a serious injury are minimal since the child plays alone without physical contact with any other children.3. A problem that our kids often have is impatience. By playing golf they will learn to be more patient and to deal with frustration since one of the main qualities of this sport is knowing how to manage shots and not lose patience over mistakes.4. Golf is the perfect reason to spend more time with your children by sharing in something they like in a family setting. A weekend getaway to our golf course in Mallorca is ideal for bringing the family together which is something we sometimes overlook due to the stress in our daily lives. For 5 year-olds and above, the Junior Academy at our golf course in Mallorca is intended for parents who want to provide their children with the chance to learn a highly beneficial sport. Golf Pollensa academy works with Jamie Knight Golf Pro: a PGA professional player with a long experience offering private lessons in different golf courses in Mallorca. -
If you like to practice golf in Mallorca, we'll give you some recommendations so you can enjoy this sport to the fullest. At Golf Pollença (north of the island) we encourage you to pay attention to these tips and put them into practice.Take note and vibrate with golf in Mallorca (near Pollensa Bay)Here are some indications that will come in handy so you don't despair on the green. Pay attention.-Not having warmed up enoughAlthough it may seem to you that it's not as necessary as in other more intense sports, it's key to start off on the right foot. The same as practicing with some balls. For example, professional golfers begin to warm up an hour and a half before playing. And they do, among other things, with elastic bands in the gym. Remember, on the other hand, that warming up is not equivalent to those stretches that we recommend for you after your sports session.-Not having a clear game strategyIt's very important to be clear about the way you play before you start. If you want to remedy a habitual failure of those who aren't great strategists, shot to the green and not to the flag from the rough.-Make excusesFor example, if you play in our club, near the bay of Pollensa and the Serra de Tramuntana, never blame wind or rain. Turn around these excuses and think about how you can use these conditions against other players.-Choose the stableford formatInstead, we recommend the medal. Consider that all hits will count. In short, if you want golf to compensate you, apply these tips and don't improvise.
